ABOUT

Alexis Strum is a comedy writer/performer, presenter and actress whose TV roles include co-starring in FX/BBC’s ‘Better Things’ in the USA, BBC’s ‘Almost Never’ and ‘Wannabe’, ITV’s ‘Timewasters’ and SKY’s ‘Sick Note’, as well as commercials for Domino’s, M&S, Schweppes and more.

She began her entertainment career as a songwriter for the likes of Kylie Minogue, Rachel Stevens and other pop acts, also writing music for TV soundtracks (‘The Inbetweeners’, ‘Teen Wolf’, ‘Vital Signs’), before securing a recording contract herself with Warner and then Universal Records. During her pop career, she performed on MTV, at SXSW and the V Festival, duetted with Robbie Williams and had Jamie Dornan and Ellie Goulding support her on tour! She thinks of herself as ‘The World’s Most Almost Famous Person’.

In fact, her hilarious life story was the basis for her successful live show, ‘The Time I Almost…’ which had a sell-out residency at London’s The Book Club, attracting a slew of well-known comedians to come onstage and tell stories of their funniest ‘Sliding Doors’ moments. A feature in Time Out followed as well as Design My Night hailing the show, ‘One of London’s Best Comedy Nights’.

When the pandemic hit, Alexis started a podcast, ‘The Funny HaHa Survival Guide’, taking a deep dive into how female comedians were coping during lockdown. The podcast was featured in The Guardian, The Evening Standard and Chortle and attracted guests such as: Pamela Adlon, Celia Imrie, Kerry Godliman, Vicki Pepperdine, Shazia Mirza and ‘honorary female’, Jason Manford, who she has since collaborated with on a comedy sketch, featured on The British Comedy Guide. When not presenting podcasts or shows on her own Twitch channel, Alexis is in demand as a talking head and has featured on many notable podcasts, such as ‘Drunk Women Solving Crime’, ‘Off The Beat And Track’ and ‘Hardcore Listing’.

She has quite the following on Twitch too where her online show, ‘The HR Department’, an office-based improvised comedy chat show, has featured special guests including: Tom Mayhew, Nick Helm, Bilal Zafar, Joz Norris, Stevie Martin, Ola Labib and Brona Titley and she is now taking the show live and working on a scripted version featuring her character, Caroline Crosshair, which Sky Comedy Development described as, ‘a fast-paced world full of brilliantly outspoken and feisty characters, so there's a huge amount to like here’.

In fact, Alexis has a lot of experience as a comedy writer, having been commissioned to write pilots for Fresh One and Shed Productions, as well as online sketches for Hat Trick. She wrote and produced the short film, ‘Shoes’ which made official selection for multiple international film festivals including LSFF and writes and films her own sketches, some of which regularly feature on The Huffington Post, The British Comedy Guide and have even been shortlisted for a Funny Women Award. Her sketch, ‘Facebook Parents’ about those pesky, oversharing parents we all love to hate, has had over 100k views. She also blogs about being a single parent for the likes of Metro, Gingerbread and Selfish Mother.

In addition, Alexis is an emerging playwright and her works include ‘Volcano’ at Theatre Royal Stratford East (mentored by Rikki Beadle-Blair MBE), ‘Always The Bride’ at Wimbledon Studio Theatre (‘Funny and well observed’, Wimbledon Guardian), and ‘Before And After’ at The Arcola.

She has also performed stand-up to great acclaim: Finalist in Colchester New Comedian Of The Year, Semi-Finalist in The Funny Women Stand-Up Awards and Semi-Finalist in Leicester Square New Comedian Of The Year.

Finally, Alexis is a media survivor Ambassador for Women’s Aid and has collaborated with charity AVA to produce an app for survivors of domestic abuse, funded by The Prince’s Trust.
